Daniel 3:16-18 “16 Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego replied to the king, ‘O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to give you an answer concerning this matter. 17 If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the furnace of blazing fire; and He will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18 But even if He does not, let it be known to you, O king, that we are not going to serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.’”

Have you ever been faced with an impossible decision?  It seemed no matter which answer you decided on was going to end wrong.  Well, that’s exactly the story today.  If Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego bowed to the statue, they were disobeying God.  If they didn’t bow, they were disobeying the king.

There may come a time in your life when you are faced with such a dilemma.  Then what? What will you choose?  Will you obey God or man?  Will you choose to live or possibly die?  All around the world right now, brothers and sisters in Christ are faced with that decision because of persecution in their country.  Many choose to compromise and live.  Others choose to obey their Lord and are beaten or even killed.

I pray this is a lesson we NEVER have to teach our kids.  Children should not have to worry about life and death decisions.  But the way the world is going, it could happen.  So, how do you talk to your kids about this subject. Just use the Word.  Read them this story and ask them what they would do. Ask them how if they thought Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego were scared when they approached that furnace.

It’s okay to be scared in the face of danger.  But it is also a time to trust the God who saved us.  Let them see your courage in when you face uncertain times.  Let them know you are trusting in God who has promised us peace through His Son.

Are you struggling today trusting Him?  Are you facing some hard times right now and feel He is nowhere near you?  Stop and listen.  He may just be calling your name right now.

I trust You, Lord, even in the darkest hours.  I trust You to bring me through, one way or the other.  I know I can depend on You.
