Isaiah 29:13 “Then the Lord said, ‘Because this people draw near with their words And honor Me with their lip service, But they remove their hearts far from Me,…’”

Oh man!  The Lord will not tolerate lip service.  Do you know what that is?  It’s like when people praise and shout to the Lord on Sunday, but live like the devil the rest of the week.  Their lips say one thing, but their hearts are somewhere else.  They don’t even have to “live like the devil.”  They can just ignore God the rest of the week.

Listen, God doesn’t care about your words of praise if your heart isn’t praising Him!  Our attention should be God focused at all times, not just at church.  Our priority must be Him first.  Nothing else is as important.

Don’t let your children fall into this trap. Hold them accountable.  Don’t let them play pretend with God.  That’s cute when they are little and playing dress up. That’s cute when they are walking around in your adult shoes and wearing your jewelry.  It isn’t cute when they are pretending spiritual things.

I have seen too many children pretend to be such Christ followers around other believers, but are disrespectful to their parents and other adults.  That is giving lip service.  Confront those attitudes.  If you don’t, they will grow up thinking they can get by with this all their lives.

Maybe you are playing pretend with God.  Maybe you are acting one way in public and another way at home.  God demands honesty.  He will not tolerate you making a mockery of His name and your relationship with Him. It is too holy.

O Lord, I am so guilty of not being honest with You so many times.  I want to give You my all at all times.  Forgive me of my lip service.  Help me teach others to give You all.
