1 Kings 20:36 “Then he said to him, ‘Because you have not listened to the voice of the Lord, behold, as soon as you have departed from me, a lion will kill you.’ And as soon as he had departed from him a lion found him and killed him.”

All this guy had to do was strike the prophet. That’s it.  Just hit him.  The request didn’t make any sense.  Perhaps he was afraid to hit the prophet.  But back in those days if a prophet said to do something and he was known as a true prophet of God, you had better pretty much do what he said.

As a result of not doing the Lord’s bidding, he was killed by a lion.  That’s harsh. Boy, if that had been my consequence for not obeying the Lord, I would have been lion food a long time ago.  I am so thankful for mercy and grace.  Aren’t you?

The next time your little ones disobey you threaten them with a lion attack.  Just kidding! Seriously, your children need to know that when they disobey your rules (which, by the way, should always mirror God’s Word), they are really disobeying God.  They don’t have to be concerned about lions, but God is not pleased.

Can you think of the most recent time when your children have disobeyed?  Now ask yourself this question.  When was the last time you disobeyed God?  Before you are too hard on your child, you need to correct your own behavior. You are still a child of the King.

We parents think that just because we are the adults we don’t have “to mind.”  Oh yeah, you do. Admit it.  But we are to be obedient children of the Lord so our children will follow our example.

Father, I am Your child, and I apologize for my disobedience.  Forgive me, Father, for “bowing up” at You all the time.  Teach me to model obedience to You so others will follow You also.
