2 Samuel 17:7 “So Hushai said to Absalom, ‘This time the advice that Ahithophel has given is not good.’”
YOU TELL ME!
I bet you have struggled with that question before, right? If someone comes into your house at night to harm your family and demands to know where your children are, what are you going to do? You had better believe I am going to lie to protect my children. Evil is evil and won’t honor the truth, no matter what.
Hushai knew Ahithophel’s advice was the better advice. Absalom could have caught David quickly and killed the King, so Hushai lied to protect his King. He knew Absalom’s rebellion was evil. What would you have done? I would have done the same.
But now comes the hard part. How do you explain this to your child? How do you explain to little Gertrude that it is okay to lie sometimes? That’s difficult. I can only see one reason to tell then to do that – to protect someone’s life who is innocent. Other than that, there is no reason.
Little Elrod might say, “How about to protect my toys?” Nope, things don’t matter. “How about to keep from getting into trouble?” Nope, truth will always come out. Only to protect the innocent life of someone.
Some of you may disagree with me on this, and that is okay. You can just be wrong. Lol. Seriously, we may disagree. You may believe that a lie is never acceptable. I truly believe that God will understand this lie and will forgive me. He also protects the innocent.
