CRUSHED OPPONENT

ROMANS 16:20

“The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.”

Have you ever crushed something so completely that there was nothing left by slivers. I can remember getting a hammer and pounding little pebbles at my grandma’s farm. They would simply pulverize into powder. As a little boy, I loved doing that. It seemed to give me power, lol. I could never smash enough of them.

I know I have read today’s verse before, but it has never hit me like it did when I read it today. Look at what Paul says. He says, “The God of peace will soon CRUSH Satan under your feet.” Don’t just read that verse. Contemplate it. Take a moment and let that soak in. Satan, the great adversary, will be pulverized. The Strong’s Concordance says that word “crush” means “to crush completely, i.e. To shatter (literally or figuratively) — break (in pieces), broken to shivers (+ -hearted), bruise.” Wow! He doesn’t stand a chance, just like those little pebbles didn’t have a chance under my heavy hand with that hammer.

APPLICATION

This same God Who will crush Satan will also heal our pulverized hearts. We read in Isaiah 61, “He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,” Most scholars agree that this a prophetic statement about Jesus. Sin pulverizes us, doesn’t it. He smashes our hearts into slivers. But Jesus, the Great Physician, will completely heal us. You see, God can smash and mend.

Do you believe God has the power to crush the devil? I sure do. And I believe the devil knows it. That is why he is so “hell-bent” on trying to crush us. Way back in Genesis 3:15, God says that Satan’s head would be crushed. He knew the moment he lured Adam and Eve into sin that he had picked the wrong fight. He has no power to stand against the Father.

Don’t let life’s struggles and troubles crush you. You have a God Who can heal you. He will crush the one who is trying to crush you. Lean into Him. Trust Him. Walk in victory and don’t give the devil any room in your life. He knows he has already lost the fight. But you haven’t! You are victors through Christ.

Thank You, God, for crushing the serpent’s head.
