Jeremiah 41:2 “Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with him arose and struck down Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword and put to death the one whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.”

Why is it some people refuse to submit to those in authority?  We are seeing it everywhere now.  Here in America we see total disrespect for our President, the police, or anyone else whom God has placed in authority over us.  Yes, that’s what I said.  God has placed them.

Just like God allowed the Babylonians and Chaldeans to defeat Judah as part of His judgment and attempt to draw the Jews back to Him, today God places people over us to make us more like Him.  I truly believe that.  Why? Because nothing happens to us, as believers, that God does not allow.  But we are so power hungry we don’t want to accept that.  We want our own way.

This is the reason we must teach our children to respect their teachers or anyone else who is in authority over them.  They may not always agree with everything they say, but they should respect them. They can learn more about submission to the Lord by submitting to their earthly authorities.

It boggles my mind when I see parents who do not teach this to their kids. They allow them to be disrespectful and rude.  These children, unless someone else intervenes, are destined for a lot of heartache in life.  Teach your children to always do what they are asked by the authorities unless it is immoral or illegal.  We can be sure God would never ask us to do those things.

So, to whom are you not submitting?  Do you have a boss you just can’t tolerate so you feel justified in being passive aggressive? Maybe you have a nasty attitude about law enforcement.  Maybe you even refuse to acknowledge our President.  Just remember that God places those whom He wants over us.  Trust Him.

Father, I have been guilty of complaining about my authorities in the past.  Forgive me. Teach me to submit and simply trust You.
