NEW ASSIGNMENTS
How many times have you had a job with a job description and that job description changes? New duties are added. Others are taken away. Revisions are made in your duties. Sometimes those come with more compensation or less compensation. Regardless, those who are your authorities are the ones who have the power to make those changes.
Here we see David making preparations for the temple, which his son, Solomon, is going to build. He knows that once the temple is completed the Levites will need to have new jobs. There will no longer be a tabernacle to carry. The temple will replace it. So David gives new assignments. He revises their job descriptions. There is no record of a rebellion or a call for a union vote. They accepted their new duties from their earthly king because they knew the Lord had appointed him.
TEACHING MOMENT
Children need to be taught to submit to all authorities. Anyone who is over them (parents, teachers, coaches, police, etc) should be respected and adhered to. Now, it is important to note that your children may not always agree with those authorities. That is a mute point. They must submit unless, of course, that authority is telling them to do something illegal or immoral.
We see too much anti-authority attitudes today. Young people, children included, are rebelling against any kind of authority. I have found one to be true in those I have encountered who have that attitude. They are also at odds with God. If you are surrendered to God, you will surrender to your earthly authorities also.
Are you surrendered? I mean, are you surrendered to God in ALL things? We don’t get to pick and choose our surrendered items. The old hymn reads, “I surrender all; I surrender all; All to Thee, my precious Savior, I surrender all.” So, I ask you again, have you?
A Moment In Time
