Isaiah 37:36 “Then the angel of the Lord went out and struck 185,000 in the camp of the Assyrians; and when men arose early in the morning, behold, all of these were dead.”

IT ONLY TOOK ONE

Pretty amazing, huh?  The entire Assyrian army is laying siege to Jerusalem, so what does God do?  He sends one angel, not two, not three, not a legion of angels.  One lonely angel.  What was He thinking?  You see, when it’s the angel of the Lord, that’s all it takes.

Now, how did this “angel” do that?  Well, we aren’t told, and it really doesn’t matter.  It was done.  The Assyrians were threatening His people.  They even questioned His power.  He had to show them Who was powerful.  So, He sent just one angel who was empowered by God.  That’s all it took.

TEACHING MOMENT

What a great story to read your child!  This is “made for tv” type stuff.  They will love hearing how God defended Jerusalem.  Let them speculate how He did it.  Since we don’t know, they can just dream.  But don’t lose sight of the truth of this story.  What is that?

God is still defending His people.  He still hears us when we cry out to Him.  He still sends His angels to defeat the enemy.  Satan is no match for God, and he knows that.  Your children need to know that.  Knowing God is always there is comforting.  It does not matter who is battering the gates, He is there.

Are you looking for the angel of the Lord?  I am!  I am always looking for His Son to appear.  He is coming back.  He will take us home.  He will defeat Satan permanently.  He will rule and reign forever.  Won’t you just believe that?

O Lord, You are my rescuer!  You are the One who stands for me against those who want to harm me.  I trust You to defend me and my children.
