2 Chronicles 30:10 “So the couriers passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, and as far as Zebulun, but they laughed them to scorn and mocked them.”
NO RESPECT
In the past when you invited someone to church or tried to share the Gospel with them, they would either politely listen or at least pretend to. Not any more. Today people will literally spit in your face and laugh at you. There seems to be no respect for the things of the Lord. He is just not revered now.
The same was true in the days of Hezekiah. He tried to invite all of Israel and Judah to come to Jerusalem to celebrate the Passover together. Even though they were divided nations, he sought to unite them through their faith in Jehovah. But many of them had gone so far from God that when Hezekiah’s envoys went to them they laughed, scorned and mocked them.
TEACHING MOMENT
One lesson to teach our children from this verse is respect. We should always show respect to others, even those we disagree with. Take for instance being visited by a Jehovah Witness or a Mormon. Instead of slamming the door in their face, why not invite them in and share the Gospel with them? Now, you need to be grounded in the Word, but showing your children how to defend the faith with respect to the other people is a great lesson for them to learn.
Everyone has the right to believe what they want to believe. God gave us that choice. And we have the obligation to share with them the love of God through the shed blood of Christ. We need to reach out to our nation to invite them back to faith, regardless of how they respond. You never know who just might come if you invite them.
Will you take the step this week to invite a lost person to church? How about sharing the Gospel with at least one person? The Passover was a great celebration, but we celebrate the Passover lamb who was sacrificed for us on Calvary. One sacrifice for all time. What better message to share and to invite others to experience.
