CLEAN OUT DAY

2 Chronicles 29:16a “So the priests went in to the inner part of the house of the Lord to cleanse it, and every unclean thing which they found in the temple of the Lord they brought out to the court of the house of the Lord.”

CLEANSING

Hezekiah, king of Judah, issued a command of the Levites to get the house of God back in order after it had been neglected and basically trashed.  The Word does not say what was in the temple, but it must not have been holy.  The verse says, “every unclean thing” was removed.

That got me thinking.  What unclean things are in you?  As a believer, you are the temple of the Lord.  He also does not want unclean things in you.  Are you ready for a clean out day?  Are you ready to toss out all that is not holy?  Are you ready to restore YOU to a condition where true worship can happen?

TEACHING MOMENT

Okay, this one is easy.  Don’t you have bath time with your kids?  What a perfect time to talk about not just the external cleansing of our bodies, but also the internal cleansing of our souls.  If your children are believers, they already understand the cleansing power of Jesus.  We need to teach them the importance of keeping themselves clean of unholy things.

Our children need to know how unholy things will affect their ability to truly worship the Lord. When they allow unholy things to remain, eventually the environment is not conducive to worship. Their minds will be absorbed with worldly thoughts.  Their actions will become unholy.  They need to stay clean.

Right now, think of the things in your life that you need to toss out.  Is it your obsession with social media?  Is it your “dabbling” in pornography?  Is it your constant pursuit for wealth?  Whatever is “dirtying” up your temple, toss it out.  Cleanse yourself!  Allow the cleansing power of the Spirit to wash over you today.

O Father, cleanse me!  I give up all those things that tarnish Your temple in me.  I want my temple to be a place of holiness where I can truly worship!
