JUST THE FACTS, MA’AM

2 Chronicles 18:13 “But Micaiah said, ‘As the Lord lives, what my God says, that I will speak.’”

GOD’S WORDS

Many of us remember the 1960’s TV show “Dragnet.”  One of the phrases you heard practically every week on the show from Joe Friday while he questioned a witness was “Just the facts, ma’am.”  In other words, I only want to hear what you actually know.

Micaiah told the men who came to retrieve him to face Ahab and Jehoshaphat to agree with the other prophets.  But Micaiah could only stick to the facts that God had told him.  He could only speak God’s words, which were in fact the truth.

TEACHING MOMENT

I think the lesson for our children here is plain.  Speak the truth and only the truth.  Stick to God’s Word.  Trust the Lord to give you the words to say when you are faced by your enemies.  Just like Micaiah, God will give your children the words to say.  But they must turn to Him for those words.

Are you speaking God’s Word into your children daily?  Are you showing your reliance on His Word in the way you speak to your “enemies”?  Your children will learn how to speak God’s Word best by observing you speaking them.

When is the last time you relied on the Lord to speak through you?  We tend to want to defend ourselves very quickly.  Don’t you think the Lord is capable of defending you?  In order to speak God’s Word, however, you have to know God’s Word.  Get into it daily.  Ask Him to show you how to use it.

Lord, guide my mouth.  Speak through me.  Use me to be Your mouthpiece to a lost and dying world.
