2 Chronicles 15:17b “…nevertheless Asa’s heart was blameless all his days.”
BLAMELESS
Asa was the third king of Judah after the divided nation. He was a good king who even removed his mother from a positon of power due to her blasphemous deeds. That took a pure heart and one solely dedicated to God. In fact, the Hebrew word here for blameless can mean whole or perfect.
I don’t know about you, but I can’t say my heart is perfect. Too often my heart is divided. I let my emotions get in the way. I get too passionate about what I want rather than what God wants. Not Asa! He was completely dedicated to the Lord, therefore, the Lord blessed his reign.
TEACHING MOMENT
We don’t teach our children much about Asa. Let me encourage you to take a few days and read each story about him to your children. They need to see how he relied on God with his pure, blameless heart. They need to see how he dedicated his reign to God. They need to see how he was made a great king only because he served a great God.
We parents spend way too much time praising our children’s actions and gifts. “Now wait a minute, Carl. Aren’t we supposed to do that?” To a point, yes. But so many parents are so child focused they forget to be God focused for the sake of their children. We should be always pointing our children toward the perfect model for them – Jesus.
I want to be more like Him. Don’t you? I want to be like Asa when he faced the Ethiopian army of one million. He didn’t panic. He simply turned to the Lord and said, “God, this is your fight.” Wow! A blameless heart. A perfect heart. A whole heart.
