Mark 13:37 “What I say to you I say to all, ‘Be on the alert!’”
WATCH
There is NO doubt about it – Jesus is coming again! Are you ready? Here in Mark 13 He warned His disciples about the time. The chapter ends with these four words – BE ON THE ALERT! Actually, in the Greek, it is just one word, gregoreo, which means “stay awake.”
Have you ever been so tired you literally could not stay awake? I mean, you could sleep standing up. That happens when we don’t get enough rest or we have been working long hours. But here I truly believe Jesus is warning them about sleepiness from boredom or sloth. We must be ready at all times.
TEACHING MOMENT
How do you teach your children to watch for Jesus? You don’t want them to be worried about His return. As a believer, we welcome His return. It is nothing to be feared. But we do need to be ready. What does that mean? It means we do all we can to serve Him and tell others about Him every day.
I bet your children have friends who are lost. Help them share Jesus with them. Help them find a way to invite them to church or to your home for a Bible Study. Teach your children how to share the Gospel with someone. That’s being alert! That’s staying awake.
Are you doing the same? Are you being alert? To whom have you shared the good news with lately? Are you practicing what you are preaching? How about your neighbors? How about your coworkers? If Jesus came back this instant, would He find you sharing about Him or denying Him?
