UNENDING POWER

2 Kings 13:20-21 “20 Elisha died, and they buried him. Now the bands of the Moabites would invade the land in the spring of the year. 21 As they were burying a man, behold, they saw a marauding band; and they cast the man into the grave of Elisha. And when the man touched the bones of Elisha he revived and stood up on his feet.”

EVEN IN DEATH

Pardon me, but I find a little humor in this last story about Elisha.  All Elisha is doing is lying there in his grave.  He’s dead.  But God’s power was still evident.  What do you think those men thought when the guy they just threw in the grave jumped up on his feet?  That must a little bit surprising.  And how about the dead man?  What do you think he thought?  He had no idea what just happened.

God’s power is never ending.  Elisha possessed God’s power in life and obviously even in his death.  There was nothing special about Elisha.  It was all God.  God used him to bring life to a dead man even beyond death.  But it was all God, not Elisha.

TEACHING MOMENT

Our children need to learn that God’s power is never ending.  He will be with us forever, even in death.  When they need encouragement, they need to go to Him.  When they need counsel, they need to go to Him.  When they feel they can’t go on, they need to go to Him.  Because God will never leave them.

But there is one catch.  They have to be His. They have to surrender their lives to Him to receive that never ending power.  So, our task as parents is to do everything within our power to lead them to Him.  God will do the rest.  We need to provide the environment, though.  Our actions and lifestyles should always point to the Father.

Are you feeling weak and powerless?  Are you feeling defeated?  Turn to Him whose power is endless.  Turn to Him who has the power to supercharge you.  You have to plug into Him to receive it.  He won’t force feed you.

O God, the Almighty One, give me Your power today.  When I am weak be my strength.  Fill me with Your energy and strength today so that I can draw others to You.
