2 Kings 11:21 “Jehoash was seven years old when he became king.”
Could you imagine your child becoming President at age 7? Probably not! But Jehoash was crowned king at age 7 after hiding for 6 years in the temple from the Queen Mother who had killed all the other sons. The priest Jehoiada was the one who cared for him and prepared him to be one of the great kings of Judah.
I have to wonder if all those years in the house of the Lord helped prepare him to lead. He was surrounded by the things of the Lord and probably learned to read by reading the scriptures. Hmmm, maybe his environment did help prepare him.
TEACHING MOMENT
So, I have to ask. Are you “surrounding” your child with the things of the Lord? Do they hear the Word of the Lord daily? Do they hear you praying for them and others? Is your home a “temple of the Lord”?
There is no better way to raise our children than to submerse them in His Word. I don’t mean to imply they can’t have other influences, but God’s Word is the best source. If you aren’t teaching your children the Word, who will? You can’t rely on the Pastors or Sunday School teachers. It is YOUR job!
Now, before you say, “I’m not qualified,” remember it is the Lord who will give you the wisdom you need. But you have to ask Him. He wants to see you raising your children (actually, His children He has loaned to you) to know Him and honor Him.
Let me encourage you today to take the time to evaluate how you are training your children. They may not grow up to be President, but they will grow up. Don’t you want them to carry the torch of the Lord into whatever career God leads them? God can use them to change their community and family.
