WHAT ARE YOU WORSHIPPING?

Psalms 115:4-7 “4 Their idols are silver and gold, the work of man’s hands. 5 They have mouths, but they cannot speak; They have eyes, but they cannot see; 6 They have ears, but they cannot hear; They have noses, but they cannot smell; 7 They have hands, but they cannot feel; They have feet, but they cannot walk; They cannot make a sound with their throat.”

LITTLE “GODS” EVERYWHERE

I have friends who are living and working in another country where idol worship still exists. In fact, in this country they literally have millions of “gods” to worship. There are idols placed on street corners, on window sills, on walls along sidewalks and just about everywhere. We here in the States are quick to say, “How crazy is that!” But guess what, we do the same.

We have idols in our driveways, sitting in a prominent place in our living rooms shining brightly all night long and we even carry them around in our purses or wallets. Our “gods” are no different than the ones we make fun of around the world. We just disguise ours and don’t bow down to them or give them offerings for others to see.

TEACHING MOMENT

What are you teaching your children to worship? What are you putting first in your life? What are you spending the most time and energy into? That points our children to what they think we worship. Now, I am not saying we need to spend every waking minute in the Bible or in church. We were made and we are called to be in the world as His light. But we can’t immerse ourselves so deeply in the world that we are shining for Him.

I am as guilty as the rest when it comes to spending too much time on things that really don’t matter. College football starts in a few weeks and I could literally spend a whole Saturday watching games. But this year I am vowing to NOT do that (Yes, Christine, I said that. Lol). There is nothing wrong with football and cheering on your team. But when it drives your whole life and controls your calendar, something is amiss.

Remember, our idols also can’t see, hear, smell, speak, touch or walk. But you can. Use your senses to make a difference. Be the eyes, ears, nose, mouth, hands and feet of Jesus.
