HOW SMART ARE YOU?

Psalms 111:10 “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; A good understanding have all those who do His commandments; His praise endures forever.”

IQ

I have never seen my IQ number, nor do I want to. I have known some people who were extremely smart as far as “book sense” but extremely ignorant when it came to common sense. What does “smart” really look like? We are told right here in this Psalm. Fearing the Lord and doing His commandments shows just how smart we are.

TEACHING MOMENT

Do you educate your children? Now that is probably a dumb question, right? Sure you do! Not only do you know that it is the right thing to do, but it is also the law here in the States. If you don’t send your children to school or provide education in your home, you could be arrested. So, it is not even a question.

Do you make yourself get out of bed every weekday to ensure they are in school? Of course you do! You get up and make sure they are up and ready to go every school day. But how about Sundays? “Oh, but we are so tired on the weekends. We will just skip this week.” Having your child in regular attendance at church learning the truths of the Gospel is more important than having regular attendance in school.

Now, before you label me a legalist, let me explain. Church attendance does nothing for you spiritually as far as getting “brownie points” with God. What I am saying is your child’s Christian education in God’s Word is critical for their success in life. We must put as much importance on that as their academic pursuits. A Masters Degree won’t get your child in heaven, but a personal relationship with Jesus will secure their eternity.

So, just how smart are you? Where is your priority for your child’s education? Is your child developing their wisdom from the Lord and His commandments? Are you showing that wisdom to them? Don’t be book smart and eternally lost.
