1 Chronicles 3:1 “Now these were the sons of David who were born to him in Hebron: the firstborn was Amnon, by Ahinoam the Jezreelitess;”
WHO IS THAT?
Do you remember who followed David as king? That’s right – Solomon. Do you know where he fell in line with the rest of David’s sons? Way down there. He was not the firstborn son, which you would expect, since he was made king. The firstborn son of David, according to this verse, was Amnon. Who was he? We know nothing about him.
Don’t you wonder why? I do. Why wasn’t Amnon made king after David? Why wasn’t he groomed to take over. That was pretty customary. Perhaps he died young. Perhaps he was rebellious. We just don’t know.
TEACHING MOMENT
My point is position doesn’t mean power. Your children need to know that. Your firstborn may not be the most influential. Your children all have unique gifts. God doesn’t just choose to bless the oldest or the smartest. God calls each of them separately and only when they surrender to His will.
How do you see God using your children? You probably don’t have a kingdom to pass down, but you do have a legacy to leave with them. How are you preparing your children to carry on your legacy of faith? David may have done his best with Amnon, and he still didn’t follow the Lord. We just don’t know. Neither do you. You have to trust the Lord and allow Him to direct your children.
Are you allowing the Lord to direct you? What would the Lord have you do for Him today? Perhaps the Lord has a “kingdom” for you to rule over. Maybe He has another task planned for you, but He can’t give you the task until you are willing to do whatever He asks. We must surrender ALL.
