LEAKY ROOF

Mark 2:4 “Being unable to get to Him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above Him; and when they had dug an opening, they let down the pallet on which the paralytic was lying.”

NOW THAT’S A HOLE

This is one of those stories in the Bible that has been taught over and over.  Almost anyone who has been to Sunday School or Church has heard the story of the friends who dug a hole through the roof to get their friend healed.  But have you ever thought about those men?

The focus seems to always rest on Jesus (as it should), the paralyzed man or the ones who questioned Jesus.  But these men had the faith to believe that Jesus could heal their friend.  They put a hole in a roof for him.  I bet they even believed that Jesus could fix the roof.  Maybe He did.  We don’t know.  But these friends went to extreme measures to get their friend in front of Jesus.

TEACHING MOMENT

To what extreme are you willing to go to get your children in front of Jesus.  “Well Carl, I would do anything.”  Really?  How about getting rid of your television so you and your children can spend more time with Jesus?  How about giving up weekend soccer so you can make sure your children are in church on Sunday?

Ouch, did that hurt your toes?  You see, we are willing to do anything – unless it inconveniences us.  We say we want them to walk with Jesus and live holy lives, but only if it doesn’t hamper our lifestyles.

What do you need to give up today in your family to make sure your children (and you) spend more time with the Lord?  I guarantee there is something.  We ALL have something.  Don’t compromise your walk with Christ to make sure your children have all the opportunities to be a success at soccer or tennis or piano or…you name it.

Ask yourself what is more important, that activity or their eternity.  I don’t think there is any question which is the most important.  Now, are you willing to dig that hole through the roof?

O Father, give me the courage to get rid of the things in my family’s life that hamper us from fully seeing you.  Give me the boldness to dig a hole through my neighbor’s roof to get my family in front of Jesus.
