FOLLOW THE LIGHT

2 Samuel 22:29 “For You are my lamp, O Lord;  and the Lord illumines my darkness.”

THEN SHINE IT BRIGHTLY

I sometimes go out on the lake to fish early in the morning or stay out on the lake until dark.  If you are on the lake from dusk to dawn, you are required to have a bow light and a stern light illuminated.  This allows other boats to see you and avoid a collision.  Believe me, when you are on the water when it’s dark, it’s really dark.  You want those lights on.

Those lights protect me.  They show others where I am, thereby protecting them.  In a similar way, the light of Jesus in me, that I allow to shine, shows others where I am.  It can also draw others to Jesus (the light) thus showing them protection and guidance.  But I have to keep my light lit and shining for others to see.  Therein lies the problem.

TEACHING MOMENT

Guiding our children with the light of Christ is really not that difficult, if we keep the light shining.  Christ will do the rest.  We have to keep shining the light.  Jesus does the drawing.  That’s His job.  WE ARE NOT THE LIGHT.  We are simply vessels of the light.

How do we shine the light then?  By keeping all things in our life that could hide the light out of the way.  If I hung my hat or jacket on my boat lights, they would still be on, but no one could see them.  If I cover my “Jesus light” with worries of this world and ungodly pursuits, I still possess the light of salvation, but no one can see it.

Won’t you today take a look at how you are shining the light of Jesus in your life.  Do you only “turn it on” when other lights are around?  Do you dim it when you are in the company of friends aren’t believers?  Or do you lift it high for all to see, no matter how the light is received.  Light will drive away darkness – every time.

O Father of lights, will you help me today to lift my light so a dark world will know where I stand and be drawn to Your Son Who can give them light?
