Jeremiah 51:16 “When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and He causes the clouds to ascend from the end of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain and brings forth the wind from His storehouses.”
COUGH, COUGH!
I guess this verse stuck out to me because the region of the U.S. where I live is under a severe drought right now. We are well under our normal rainfall for the year and are experiencing fires all around. The air is full of smoke, and the air quality is poor. Visibility on the area highways is down to less than a mile in some places. People are urged to stay indoors because of the smoke and fires.
I was wondering if perhaps the reason we do not have rain is because we have not heard His voice. The verse reads, “When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens.” Have we acknowledged our own sins against a Holy God? Have we turned to Him for forgiveness? Have we begged Him for rain?
TEACHING MOMENT
What a perfect verse to teach our children. Show your children this verse and discuss it with them. They should know that it is the Lord that sends the rain on the just and the unjust. He is the one who is in control of the weather, not the local meteorologist. We must ask Him for rain when it is needed and for clear skies when they are desired.
Explain to your children why rain is so important to us. God knows that we need it and will send it according to His perfect plan. Why would God care about rain? Because He made it, just like us. And everything that He makes is special to Him.
