TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT

John 20:30 “Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book;”

TOO MUCH TO TELL

This verse has always intrigued me. Not because of the words but in what it implies. The stories we have of Jesus that are told in the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) are only a fraction of the full story of Jesus. This verse implies only of the “many other signs” He “performed in the presence of the disciples.” This verse does not even mention what could have happened in those “missing “ years from age 2-12 and then again from age 12-30. How much more could have been written?

Parents, think about all the little things your own children have said or done since they were born. I tell parents all the time to write down those little “funnies” they experience. Fortunately, social media and technology allow us to capture many of those events, for say their wedding day so we can embarrass them beyond belief. Haha.

Similarly, our children forget many the things the Lord has done for them through the years. We are ALL so soon to forget His blessings in our lives. But our children get so busy with their lives that they have to be reminded sometimes of the Lord’s interactions in their days. Can you remember all of them? Probably not!

TEACHING MOMENT

Take a moment as you see the Lord work to make a note (not just a mental note). Take a picture with your smart phone so the moment is recorded. Help you child write a journal, if they are old enough, to put down their own thoughts in that moment. Why not start a Family Journal to record all the events in which the Lord moved?

And then, once you have that record, occasionally pull that journal out and read it to your kids as a way to give thanks to the Lord for His protection and provision. Praise the Lord for His loving care in your family! This brings joy to our Father!
