Luke 21:29-30 “29 Then He told them a parable: ‘Behold the fig tree and all the trees; 30 as soon as they put forth leaves, you see it and know for yourselves that summer is now near.’”
When I was growing up in South Georgia, I used to love to go visit my Grandma Carter’s house in the country. She lived on this farm where we could run around and explore. There was a chicken coop, a couple of barns and cows. But there was also this awesome fig tree.
This fig tree had those large brown figs. I couldn’t wait until it was fig season. I would go to that tree which was right beside the well house and eat those figs right off the tree. I would find the biggest one, split it open and eat it the insides first. Fig season was indeed sweet!
However, in this parable Jesus refers to the fig tree and other trees as a way we know the seasons. He is telling them that just like that, when we see the events He talked about concerning the last days, we will know the “season” has come.
Have you listened to the news lately? We need to be preparing our children for these last days. All around us the events are lining up for His return. But oh Moms and Dads, these are not times to be feared. Just like I eagerly anticipated fig season, we too should be eagerly anticipating His return. It will be sweet for our children and us as believers.
So, may I ask you a question? Are you ready? Have you asked the Lord Jesus to be your personal Lord and Savior? Have you prayed for your children to do the same? Have they? Don’t delay. It’s almost fig season!
