Numbers 22:28 “And the LORD opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, ‘What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?’”

Your kids will love this story!!! You really have to read Numbers 22-24 to them to tell them the whole story. But this verse – wow – will have their eyes bugging out. Lol

A donkey talks? Really? What an amazing thing! It just proves that God can do anything He wants anytime He wants to anyone (or thing) He wants. He is not limited by what WE think is possible. Come on! A donkey talking?

There are many lessons in this passage, but the one I want to share today is really quite simple. God will use anyone who is willing to be used and recognizes Him for Who He is. The donkey saw the Angel of the Lord! Balaam was not looking for God, so he didn’t. But God opened the eyes (and then the mouth) of the donkey to recognize the holiness and awesomeness of the Angel of the Lord.

Your kids need to see in this passage that they too can be used to speak great truths to others if they will keep their eyes open and their mouths willing. God can use them to speak truth to others to protect them from dangers that they do not see but which the Lord has revealed to them. They can tell their friends, “I wouldn’t do that because in the Bible it says….” Simple truths that carry a great message.

The next time someone tells you, “Don’t be a donkey,” remind them that God can use a donkey sometime. Amen?
