Leviticus 19:1-2 “1Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 2″Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.”
What in the world does this mean? Does God really expect us to be holy like Him? All I can tell you, Moms and Dads, is “Yes, He does.” If He says it He means it. That is ALWAYS the case. God doesn’t waste words just to hear Himself speak. He says it and expects us to follow.
So, how in the world do we 1) live holy lives and 2) teach our children to live holy lives? It’s really pretty simple. Just do what God tells us, and when we are not sure, don’t do it. The Book of Leviticus is really just that – God telling His people how to live their everyday lives. He tells them what to eat, how to prepare it, how to make wrongs right, how to handle property, etc., etc., etc.
So, if being holy is that simple, why aren’t we holy? Because we like ourselves too much and don’t want to give up “our rights.” Listen to me, Moms and Dads, when you exert your rights on the standards God has set for you, you can rest assured that your children will learn to do the same on the standards you set for them. No wonder they are unruly and disrespectful. We are doing the same thing to God when we don’t bow ourselves to His Will and let Him has His way.
“You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.” Those are His words, not mine. Will you obey? Will you point your children toward holiness?
